Suite Française by Irène Némirovsky

The novel is a literary masterpiece that portrays life during the Nazi occupation of France. It is divided into two parts: the first follows Parisians fleeing the German invasion, and the second details a small rural community under occupation. Némirovsky wrote the book in the early 1940s but was arrested and died at Auschwitz before completing the planned five-part series. The handwritten manuscript was preserved in a suitcase by her daughters and published decades later in 2004.
