Ông là một cây bút tiêu biểu, gắn bó sâu sắc với văn học của tỉnh nhà và được công nhận là Hội viên Hội Nhà văn Việt Nam vào năm 1979. Bút Ngữ không chỉ đóng góp vào sự nghiệp sáng tác mà còn là người sáng lập Hội Văn học Nghệ thuật Thái Bình từ đầu những năm 1970, đồng thời khởi xướng các lớp bồi dưỡng tài năng sáng tác văn học cho thiếu nhi.
