TỰA CỦA DỊCH-GIẢ Truyện này dịch ra đăng trong tập Đông-dương Tạp-chí từ ngày 7 Août 1913, kế đến khi có báo Trung-Bắc Tân-văn, thì rồi lại đăng tiếp vào báo Trung-Bắc, mãi cho đến ngày 28 Décembre 1916 mới xong. Xem lại thật là nhiều nơi lỗ-mỗ. Nhưng xin độc-giả cũng lượng xét cho, ngày thuở ấy, chưa mấy ai đã tin được rằng tiếng Việt-Nam ta có ngày dịch được một bộ tiểu-thuyết Tây. Dịch-giả bấy giờ cũng là làm một việc mạo-hiểm.
